November 14 - 20, 2011 is Antibiotic
Awareness Week
AMMI Canada is working collaboratively to
promote the prudent use of antimicrobials through public and
professional education. This year, our second Antibiotic Awareness
campaign has been extended to a week, and again coincides with the
European and US efforts. Live interactive webinars proved
popular with health professionals last year and will be expanded
this year. Antibiotic Awareness resources available on
the AntibioticAwareness.ca
website include factsheets on AMR in food animal production,
hospitals and community settings, and northern and remote
communities. A "prescription pad" for doctors to give directly to
patients seeking antibiotics is also available. For patients, there
is advice on knowing when to see a doctor, the use of
over-the-counter medications, and what to do to keep children
healthy. Visit AntibioticAwareness.ca
for more information.

Antimicrobial resistance is not a new problem but one that is
becoming more dangerous; urgent and consolidated efforts are needed
to avoid regressing to the pre-antibiotic era.
On World Health Day 2011, WHO introduced a six-point policy
